Members of the Takoma Park and surrounding community came out in search of used and nearly new treasures at the fall book sale of the Friends of the Takoma Park Maryland Library. Despite an uncertain forecast, the sale was, as is traditional, held on the library lawn. This sale marked the first rise in book prices in many years, and it also marked the first time that book buyers could use their credit cards. As a result, the Friends raised more than $3,700, which will go to support library programs for children and adults.
A big thank you to all of the volunteers who came to help out, and to the Takoma Middle School students who gave us a hand while fulfilling community service hours. The Piney Branch Elementary PTA was there to sell delicious baked goods. Of course, we cannot have this sale without all of our generous book donors and book buyers!
If you took a membership form while you were checking out, and you are considering becoming a member of the Friends to help support the library programs that you and your children enjoy, you can now become a member online. Thank you.
The three annual book sales are the major fundraisers for the Friends. Our next sale is the Holiday Book Sale, which will take place on December 8. The holiday sale is smaller, held in the community center, with mostly new or nearly new books on sale.
Here are a few snapshots from our fall book sale.
