Each year, the Friends hold two major book sales, in the spring and fall, on the grounds of the city library, and a smaller holiday sale in the Community Center that features children and youth books.

The three book sales — together with Friends’ memberships — are major fundraisers that support diverse library programs for toddlers, middle school and teenage youth, and adults — among them Spanish and French Circle times, Summer and Winter Quest, Arts & Crafts programs for children, Little Free Libraries, Spring for Poetry in Takoma Park, author appearances and book clubs.

Book donations may be dropped at the library generally four to six weeks in advance of the book sale during opening hours (Monday to Thursday 10-8, Friday to Sunday 12-6). Books should be in very good condition and of general interest. (Your college text on the biochemistry of flatworms would not be considered of general interest.) If you have more than three cartons, or if you have questions, you might want to give the library a call first at (301) 891-7259.
