Piney Branch Elementary School ESOL Book club, sponsored by Friends of the Takoma Park Maryland Library has wrapped up its first season. The book club is for Piney Branch English Language Learner students and their parents. (We wrote about the club in December of last year, after it was launched.) On Sunday, June 16, WOWD’s Eric Bond, host of Talk of Takoma on WOWD, aired a recording made earlier of a discussion with students in the book club, their parents, their ESOL teacher Rachna Rikhye, and Takoma Park Library librarians. The New American students and parents told Eric how much the book club and the Takoma Park library has inspired a love of reading and in the process improved their English.
